Crowds gather at the Kiryandongo refugee camp in Uganda as the Street Boyz perform. Members of the rap crew are usually scattered around different parts of Uganda and Kenya, but are sometimes able to congregate for a gig.

Unlike many refugee-hosting countries, Uganda allows refugees on its territory to access public schools. At Candom Primary School, a name that means in Swahili "the problems are the same" in reference to the past shared by the South Sudanese refugees who attend the school, they are 4275 students enrolled. Each teacher has to handle between 120 and 180 students in crowded classes where the latest ones have to take the course standing or through the window.

Young South Sudanese refugees react as they watch the final of the Champions League in a specially arranged venue for the occasion in the camps. The festive gathering times of this kind are rare and the atmosphere is over-stimulated.

Baddy Bwoy, a member of Taidor's Street Boyz collective, walks in the camp near children carrying water jerry cans. Most of them are women and children who populate the camp.

16-year-old Nyajuoy Chabak has just given birth to her first child in the hospital at Kyriandango camp. She is happy that she was able to give birth in a place where there is no fighting, even if the child's father stayed in South Sudan. "My son will not see his country right if peace returns. I hope this day will come. "

Street Boyz - South Sudanese refugee in Uganda

Fuelled by music, the Street Boyz represent the refugees of South Sudan. A week in the life of a rap crew making the most of life in a Ugandan refugee camp. The story of Taidor Deng Mach, also known as T-Chris, is the story of hundreds of thousands of refugees who, like him, fled South Sudan’s civil war to neighbouring Uganda. T-Chris is part of a crew of rappers, all from South Sudan, called the Street Boyz.
